The Araluen Centre for Arts and Entertainment is one of the main venues in Alice Springs for visual and performance arts. The centre itself is somewhat of a work of art, with stained glass windows designed by local Aboriginal artists, relating a series of separate yet intertwined traditional stories.
The Araluen Centre houses four different galleries inside, each of which features a revolving program of Aboriginal art and contemporary art by regional Australian artists. The location of Alice Springs places it central to Aboriginal culture, which is reflected in many of the exhibitions presented by the Araluen galleries, which often features work by celebrated artists. One of the most popular of the galleries is the Albert Namatjira Gallery, featuring a comprehensive collection of works from this famous Aboriginal artist. The Araluen Centre also has a 500-seat theatre, which enables it to play host to regular community drama, dance and music events, as well as travelling shows from elsewhere in the country. The Araluen Centre is actually part of the Araluen Cultural Precinct, which also includes:
