The Newcastle Region Maritime Museum is centrally located along Newcastle’s Lee Wharf on the harbour foreshore. This area of Australia has traditionally relied very heavily on maritime industry, so it is fitting that it should form the theme of one the most important attractions in Newcastle, and is in fact one of the best collections of maritime artefacts and memorabilia in Australia.
The Museum has only recently been relocated to its current base, and so the process of installing presentations is in a continuing state, with new exhibits going up all the time. Anyone who is at all interested in the ocean will be thrilled with the collection on offer, which features several actual boats, pieces of significant wrecks which have been recovered, and of course heaps of important bits of memorabilia including log books, models, uniforms and photographs. The Newcastle Region Maritime Museum is located in the heart of the cultural district of Newcastle, so a visit can easily be combined with a tour around the centre.
