South Australia

Pennington Bay, Kangaroo Island, SA

South Australia embodies everything you imagine Australia to be and more. Advertised as “a brilliant blend” it is hard to think of a better description to sum up the state. The state capital is Adelaide, a true embodiment of laid-back Aussie life, with a café culture reminiscent of Europe. Culture vultures in particular will fall in love with Adelaide, with the fine collection of colonial architecture, fascinating museums and stylish art galleries.

Only a short drive out of the city are world renowned wine regions – Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale – all of which boast a whole host of world-famous wineries and eateries where you can while away many hours.

Although Bondi Beach and the Sunshine or Gold Coasts are probably those which first spring to mind when talking about Australian beaches, there are also some great sections of coastline in the South-East corner of South Australia. The Eyre, Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsulas offer everything a great Australian beach should – sunshine, sand and great surf – but without the hordes of tourists you will find on the other beaches.

And of course who could take a trip to South Australia without heading into the great Aussie Outback. The mining town of Coober Pedy –an opal mining town literally built into and under the ground – is the gateway to the Outback on the long road through to the Northern Territory. So as you see, there is something for everyone in South Australia - a “brilliant blend” indeed!
